Touché @ Section 17, PJ

Never judge a book by its cover, they say. Also, unexpected plans are sometimes the best.

I gotta admit this ; the first time I visited Touché I didn't have the best impression of the place because I thought there were so much better (popular) ones out there. I ended up there that time because a friend and I were desperate for some breakfast meals after a couple of failed attempts to other places. Unfortunately, Touché don't serve breakfast after 12pm so we decided to leave for somewhere else.

This time, another friend and I had wanted to try Food Foundry which was less than a 5 minute drive away from Touché. Much to our dismay, FF was still setting up and won't be opening until an hour later. We later drove to the nearest breakfast place that was open and that was Touché. Needless to say, the latter visit was surprisingly a very good one.

; an overview of our breakfast spread.

; pastries galore!

; and cakes on the far right! (will definitely be back for them)

; the very cosy decor with a striking stone filled wall.

; leisure time away from the office walls.

AND HERE COMES THE FOOD SPAMS.

; ham and eggs!

; enjoyed this very much - well seasoned but wished they cooked the egg a little less ( I like my egg yolk oozing out when I halve it heh)

; nom hazelnut latte

; simple but wonderfully executed coffee art.

; the chocolate affagato! (to die for ; the art and drink itself)

; before our mains arrived.

; more of the latte - very smooth, creamy texture. aroma wise - pretty average but good.

; the salmon omelette! didn't really enjoy the fishy taste but the omelette is darn good.

; my "Wake up Jenn!" - crepes with yogurt, strawberry and blueberry fillings accompanied with maple syrup. pretty good because the crepe didn't bear a heavy egg taste and was rather chewy (just how I like it)

If you're looking for a place where you can sit down to catch up with friend(s) without being disturbed or pressured into leaving even if you've been hogging a table for two from 10am - 2pm (whoops), this is definitely the place to go because they serve decently good meals, pastries and drinks at affordable prices. Having sat there for over 4 hours, I've noticed a lot of office people and family who patron the cafe and have throughly enjoyed their time there, however old or young they were. Also, there were quite number of people who just went to the cafe to take away their pastries (must be THAT good). Seeing an elderly couple sharing their plates of pasta and fish & chips made me feel very bahagia on the inside to think I could do that with z in the future ; grey hair, wrinkles and all.

The Press Room Bistro @ Pavillion KL

; apologies for the poorly taken photo of the menu :(

Great first experience but on the pricier end (ouch). A rib eye here cost around RM78 (with additional RM12 for a side) but it's one of the most satisfying meal I've had at a restaurant in awhile! Along with a plate of udon carbonara. (yes, you've heard it right - UDON!)

; an overview of what we had

; i ordered the udon carbonara - it was a very, very close to perfect dish. the udon noodles had a chewy, springy texture accompanied with mushrooms and duck breast (tasted very smoky) and drenched in creamy carbonara sauce.

; my breastflen ordered the rib eye and she chose the béarnaise sauce (out of the many other sauces they had) we both didn't really fancy the butter sauce because the steak already tasted great on its own.

; dat. mash. *MUST TRY*
(amongst the other sides were fries, can't really remember the rest lol)

; pre-makan photo op (heh)

; excuse the sticker on my phone. it was meant to be funny. (says "squeeze me" if you're too lazy to tilt your head lol)

; couldn't resist the urge to call another cuppa hazelnut flavoured latte! it was pretty good. love that they have the whipped cream and chunks of hazelnut on top (nut freak).

side note : their coffees are from espressamente illy (not sure where they're from really, but I've seen this brand of coffee around a lot and also in Pavillion)

; mandatory ootd by the breastflen.
p.s : long top ; realllyyyy short shorts.

Lazy afternoon.

Because I corrected my breastflen's (hurhurrr) English on Facebook, I'm condemned to drinking this cup of the worst coffee I've possibly ever tasted. One sip felt as though someone rubbed a mix of road tar and rubber on my tongue. (not that I've tasted either before but if I did, it would taste like this nasty cup of what they would call coffee here). Thought I gave them another try after the first below par experience, I think this visit made it worst for me. On a brighter note, there's less crowd here during the afternoon, the staffs are friendly and the place's really cosy.

; Hazelnut latte (L) - RM14.30 (tax included)
could barely taste any hazelnut :(

Also, very surprisingly - Three Little Pigs serves up a mucho mucho better cup of the same. <3

Rakuzen @ Oasis Ara Damansara & Empire Subang

Oasis Ara Damansara

; Teppanyaki grilled chicken with sashimi set.

; Salmon sashimi with rice set.

Rakuzen is probably one of the most consistently good Japanese eateries around. The set lunches and dinners are actually much more worth the price (ranges between RM 23 - 60+ but it could go up to RM 80 for the bigger sets for sharing). I usually go for the salmon sashimi because I only like the fish and not the others so I don't really see the point in ordering the other sets with the mixed set of sashimi (heh). The lunch sets are much cheaper than the dinner ones but they only have the sushi rice with the salmon pieces for dinners :(

Empire Subang

; new favourite! - the avocado salmon sashimi thing lol. i like to order this when I can't decide to have beef or salmon sashimi. makes a great side if you opt for the grilled beef set!

; the beef teppanyaki set with garlic rice - the diced meat was so so tender and juicy. *moans*

; the usual salmon don! - sushi rice and sliced raw salmon

; breasflen's obessesion - the lavender ice cream which has an after taste of soap (in a good way, i think lol) topped with "fun-sized" glutinous rice balls and diced coconut jelly.

btw, i didn't see this on the menu so you can always ask the waiter and give it a try. very visually appetising. (so purdy, ain't it?)

Self conscious

Which is probably one of the reasons why I took down this blog link from my Instagram profile lol. :/
